In DevRel, one question we hear all the time from builders interested in building with Stacks is: “What should I build?”
It’s one of the most common questions we get asked at hackathons, conferences, and from anyone interested in diving into the world of building on Stacks.
We sometimes have a few ideas here and there but we wanted to create a go-to place to send people when they ask this question, a community-driven idea bank that anybody interested in building can go to for information, knowing that everything they see there is something that someone in the community wants to see exist.
So, with that goal in mind, let’s hear 'em.
What are your top “I want this to exist right now” ideas that talented builders ready to make their mark on the ecosystem should build?
I’d be interested in seeing more development around oracles — it feels like that area’s been abandoned for a while, and there hasn’t been much discussion lately. Also, DID and account abstraction, P2P trading solutions, and applications of zero-knowledge proofs would be awesome to explore. Just tossing out some ideas, anyway — I think Stacks is growing organically at its own pace, which is great :)))
sBTC type versions of Runes and Ordinals assets from the Bitcoin L1.
There’s a growing amount of creativity on the OG L1 but the technology still holds it back in term of UX and fees.
Can we take the same technology that exists to produce sBTC to Rune and Ordinal assets?
Magic Eden unlocked a heap of usage with their centralised offering, but a decentralised one would be better.
More liquid staking tokens (LSTs). Not just for STX but also for the miner part of the validation. having some way to tokenise the Bitcoin miner contribution would be something very interesting for a lot of people I think.
How feasible that is I don’t know though
More DIY tools for creators.
Token and NFT creation and management tools that anyone can pick up and create decent assets on chain with basic liquidity.
The more you can let people express their ideas on chain the more chances you have of attention coming over to Stacks
yah, recently noticed that. I was pointing about a Chainlink’s integration that, apparently, got forgotten. but if those options works well, nevermind. Is not my area of app atm.
One area top focus on that can bring major upside is integrating Stacks with Lightning, so bitcoin devs have the best of both worlds - expressive sc’s with fast P2P payments.
I think the Stacks ecosystem could really benefit from a modular stablecoin infrastructure layer rather than only individual stablecoin protocols.
Something like a reusable engine where teams can launch their own stablecoins while plugging in different modules depending on their needs (collateral types, compliance rules, oracle models, etc.).
This could lower the barrier for teams experimenting with stable assets on Stacks instead of everyone rebuilding the same core mechanics.
I’m actually exploring something along these lines with Stacks Stablecoin Engine (SSE) and would love to hear what features the community would want from such infrastructure.
Nostr integrations. I’ve long thought Stacks and Nostr should be a lot closer. They both seem to make a lot of sense together.
Things like:
Stacks wallets tied to Nostr private/public keys
ways to easy set up STX funded relays
BNS integration with Nostr profiles
Create a Nostr account with a Stacks wallet - end to end process that simplifies things
secure a Nostr account with a Stacks wallet address. Honestly the Nostr wallets are pretty poor UX right now and the Stacks wallets are kinda a too well kept secret in crypto
a Stacks Nostr client
Stacks run relays
Stacks token launcher that creates a Nostr profile linked to the token. Social proof kinda tokens. The token and the Nostr account are linked. Would be great if you could also trade those token (Nostr and token account combined). Means you could have people who are good at starting things then be able to sell them to others who are good at building things longer term
1. Explain My Transaction – a tool that breaks down any Stacks transaction in plain English, what happened, which assets were involved, fees, etc. Perfect for onboarding newbies. I’m actually building this right now.
2. Bitcoin App Hub – a simple “App Store” for Stacks where people can discover and explore apps easily. I’m building this one too.
