Our slack channels recently went through a reorganization:
Software topics like “identity” and “storage” and software projects like “core” and “browser” have been consolidated into functional channels, like “engineering” and “design” and “support”, as well as channels for specific data streams like “social” and “github” and “forum”.
There were a few reasons for this:
First, channels were ballooning as more Blockstack software projects emerged, and it was getting hard manage and direct people to the right channel.
Secondly, we want to drive more communication to GitHub and the forums for communication around software and high-level concepts, respectively.
We believe that (a) if we discuss the software where the software is being developed, we can make more progress and include more people (b) if we discuss high-level concepts on a publicly indexible forum (rather than a chat group), we can save them for posterity and allow for better conversation discovery and participation around specific threads.
This Slack is where we will continue to do all of our real-time communication. And with a simpler, clearer set of channels, we should be able to facilitate more conversation and participation.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this new format. Don’t hesitate to submit other suggestions for improvement or updates to how we’re organizing the different channels for communication.
