Paying for Gaia Storage

Currently I’ve used a number of apps, and followed your gaia storage tutorial to create a simple blog. I haven’t had to pay anything in either instance to use gaia storage and store data in my own hub. Storage isn’t free, so who’s paying for gaia storage? Is it being subsidized by blockstack?

Thanks.

In the blockstack.id creation onboarding flow, there is an option for advanced configuration, which enables people to host a gaia hub in a place of their choosing. The list of drivers currently support is here: https://github.com/blockstack/gaia/tree/master/hub/src/server/drivers

We are working to roll out easier/more automated deployment of images that run on various cloud host providers, preconfigured to run the docker configuration that gaia currently is opensourced as here: https://github.com/blockstack/gaia

You can see some tutorials we have for some options to help users here: https://docs.blockstack.org/storage/hub-operation.html

If you choose the default option, then we subsidize gaia hubs for now and would communicate any future changes.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any more questions.
