Miners in Blockstack

Hey,

I have two questions about Blockstack miners:

  1. How many miners are running Blockstack based on the Bitcoin protocol? (source?)
  2. Do miners vote on protocol changes, like in Bitcoin? If not, who decides on protocol changes?

Thanks in advance.

  1. At least 19 back in Nov 2018 (How many public Blockstack nodes are there?)
  2. There are hard-forks proposed by Blockstack PBC but there is no formal governance system (yet?).

Hey Friedger thanks for your response

A) So it means that Blockstack PBC proposes hard forks and nodes can either accept or deceline them. So if they decline, they fork. Is this correct?

B) How many nodes are run by Blockstack PBC-affilitated employees?

Thanks in advance.

Yes – you can run any prior version of the software and your node will see a divergent name history, but that’s okay (think of it like running an alternative DNS root).

B) How many nodes are run by Blockstack PBC-affilitated employees?

I run a local one on my laptop, and I maintain five nodes in five different geographic regions.

We have a draft governance mechanism described in SIP-000.

Thanks for the transparency Jude. But I truly think Blockstack PBC (employees) should have less and less power over the network. It’s not mean tell you to give up your nodes. It means we should find a way to incentives people to run nodes.
