Introduce yourself

G’day, to all my fellow Blockstackers, allow me to introduce myself, to any and all, who may give a flyin’??? My handle is, Tony Sargeant, I’m an easy goin’ Aussie, Songwriter/Poet/Copywriter and all round Raconteur, who tells a rippin’ yarn. I 'm a good horseman, a real dab hand around a barbie and I hate a cold beer and good, full-bodied red. I am glaringly aware, that although some of these attributes, may be of some use given the right circumstance, they are about as useful as an ashtray on your Harley Davidson, in the internet world. So, accordigly I have dragged my sorry carcass off to the online Code Writing Academy and I am attempting to get my head around, Javascript, Python, etc. etc. The truth is, I wouldn’t know an ‘npm’ from my elbow, but at least I know that you need one, sometimes. I’m currently camped, in a little hamlet by the name of Bendemeer, in north west New South Wales, Australia. Bendemeer consists of a school, a store, a pub, a one-man Police Station and a Caravan Park, heaps of sheep and good fresh air. It is about 40 kilometres north of Tamworth, Australia’s Country Music Capital. I’m in my 60’s and only really discovered the Internet, after having a stroke and losing a fair bit of physical prowess. I couldn’t let my mind be turned into mush, watching daytime T.V. so the obvious solution, was the World Wide Web. I was always too busy, doing physical labour,(workaholic) to really take notice of the internet before this, but I know that it is, a miraculous almost untapped, resource, that is under threat. It was invented, to be free for all and it should remain so, unrestricted by Government intervention. I will do whatever, I can to ensure that the original vision and manifesto, is adhered to. One thing that I have been amazed by, is the generosity and goodwill that you find in the internet community. I only hope that I am able to do my little bit to help keep it, in good order. I promise to try.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Dylan, I’m based in NYC. I’ve become very interested in the explosion of blockchain technology over the past few years. I’m most excited about decentralized identity projects (of which Blockstack is one) like uPort and Civic. Aside from trying out some of the available dApps from Blockstack, the blockchain project I’m most involved in is Democracy Earth-- a liquid democracy platform. It’s a very inspiring project that I highly suggest people check out, particularly if you are an advocate of becoming more self-sovereign in the 21st century!

Hi, everyone!

I’m Gabrielle. Previously I’ve worked with Pininfarina on design for growth. I’m a lifelong learner in tech, design, and social impact.

Just a few of my favorite projects right now with blockchain technology are CIVIL, ID2020, Truebit Art Project, Provenance, Codex Protocol, Maiden, the Brooklyn Microgrid, and most definitely Blockstack (honest truth).

Right now I’m based in Miami, but I love being able to move around. Milan and Mexico City are also in my heart.

I’ve been involved recently with the good people at the Miami Blockchain Society. And I am a supporter of #WomenInBlockchain and the Blockchain Inclusive and Diversity Pledge.

Feel free to reach out and say, ‘Hey’

How has everyone’s experience been so far with Blockstack and blockchain communities?

Hey Blockstackers,

Lurked around for a while so time to make it official.

We’re working on a new way to connect with DApps
and communicate with friends.

We’ve been looking (and waiting) as some of the newer
ideas have come to light on the blockchain, some where consensus wasn’t nessisarily required and to see how scalability issues are being handled by each.

Our Blockstack username is Textras, and if you want to know more pls feel free to shoot any questions over. My name is Paul and I’m posting on behalf of Textras currently but I’m going to create my own profile as well.

We’re based in SF, with remote team members in NYC, Vancouver, India, Bulgaria and Romania.

We dont have much on our site right now its bottom of our priority list but you can sign up at Textras.com or find us on Twitter @Textras.

Look fwd to contributing and learning more! Thanks for having us.

Hi Everyone,

While I am not a developer, I see decentralization as a fundamental necessity for the continued development of the internet and look forward to participating and adding content.

Background:

Business Development / Entrepreneur 5+ years -

Bloomberg LP, Clean Concepts Group.

I started career working on Bloomberg’s Vault product and got a very in depth understanding of how messaging systems, data storage, and compliance works within the financial ecosystem. With all of the positive aspects compliance brings to preventing crime, data oversight can soon turn into data authoritarianism and overwatch. For public forums and services, I think decentralization brings a much needed focus on privacy and for that, I am happy to become involved, learn more, and contribute to building in any way that I can.

Hello Blockctackers,

I am someone who can’t wait to see a 51% attack on the fiat currency and will be more than happy if I can contribute by any means. The main reason why I want this to happen is that fiat money has the worst distribution ever and is a proof of stake system that makes this distribution even worse.

I was one of the few lucky people that were able to attend ‘Blockstack Signature Fund’ in Berlin.
It was literally one of the best days of my life. I was so happy to see a huge group of motivated people connected with a pure common goal of keeping our privacy to ourselves and getting rid of centralization.

I am not a programmer yet, plan to learn some sort of coding someday! I studied Industrial Engineering so I have some decent understanding of project development and enjoy antifragile systems that organically evolve.

I was first introduced to Bitcoin in 2011 by a Swedish friend, back when centralized and then hacked Mt. Gox was the only exchange I could buy bitcoin from. Well, I was a newly graduated person and couldn’t but any so Mt.Gox hack didn’t steal any of my money. I then tried to mine but couldn’t figure it out as well. So now I have wallets set up in 2011 that has nothing in them

Anyhow, years passed and I kept stalking crypto’s but still didn’t purchase any. I did my first purchase early 2017. I have traded altcoins and etc for approximately 2-3 months and those times were really a good bull market. During that time, I realized that I spend so much time with the financials and not with the real value of blockchains.

Since June 2017, I shifted my focus to the real value of blockchains, since then I am spending a good time studying and learning different governances, and how we can effectively increase blockchain use for the rest of the population.

Hi Sheriffof0 here in London. I work as a QA for an international gaming software company. But most of my interests are unrelated to work and are ‘old-tech’. I’m here to learn about blockchain applications and keeping my data safe. You can find my handiwork generally around the web by searching for Sheriffof0 or Sheriff of Nothing.

Hello All,
I’m a systems engineer turned programmer with many years experience in both capacities. I wouldn’t say I’m totally confident in crypto currencies however the underlying block chain is a proponent furthering decentralization. For the most part I’m drawn to Blockstack’s mission and am keen to develop applications that will utilize the technology.

Thanks,
Paul

Hello, I’m Jake Avellino. I live in New York. I’m a econ major graduating this May from UAlbany. I’m interested in the economics of P2P networks. I believe that creating a “decentralized internet” could lead to capitalism work more like it does it textbooks. That would be better for consumers.

So I’m interested in blockchain applications that put more power into the hands of consumers.

Hi All!
My name is Craig, I live in Alice Springs, Australia.
I have been writing software since copying code out of a magazine for my Tandy as a child. More recently I have been working on web apps and doing IT support.
Blockchains are a very powerful technology, and with all such things it depends how they are used as to whether the effect is beneficial or detrimental.
My favourite blockchain technology so far is Blockstack. My reasons are as folows:

  • it is open source
  • it aims to shift the balance in personal data management from large corporations back to users

Very happy to be the 100th “hello” on this Introduction thread. I look forward to seeing the good things that get built on this decentralized technology!

Hi, All,

My name is Meng Gu, I live in Shanghai, China. I’m an IC designer.

I‘m interested in how to use distributed technology to change current IC design model, which include to build a DAPP to accelerate the current IC design model change to cloud-based design. If there is anyone who is interested in this topic, we can talk.

Thanks.
