Join us in Building the Stacks Ecosystem Decision Making Mechanism
In the long term of blockchain based systems, it is imperative we design & engineer for bottom up systems governance early in the web3 space. This is our only means of preventing basins of attraction into conventional concentrations of wealth & power. Which defeats the purpose of web3 tech we are passionate about seeing through. With identity & storage tools in Stacks auth, we can do some interesting things with decision making strategies without having to build from scratch!
Tools we have in mind to accomplish this include: Policykit of Oxford & Harvard research project Metagov, matched with the ever more popular SourceCred & even possibly Loomio modular decision making UI.
You can find work & research updates thus far here. Along with current thoughts on possible bottom up strategies. Jude’s original ideas here.
Step 1 - Learn about Sourcecred
If not familiar with SC, read up here. Until comfortable with concept of Cred Flow.
Step 2 - Sign in to OI Chat
Step 3 - Learn about Metagov & Policykit
Learn about Metagov prototype here. Learn how policykit works here.
See CommunityRule templates for PolicyKit here.
Step 4 - Catch up to Miriam Ashton’s hard work
Metagov Prototype GH Docs
Learn how Policykit can act as “driver” for SC plugins. Even trigger Loomio in discourse plugin!(Also see prototype channel Metagov Slack)
Step 5 - Tracking Cred Flow
Interested in ways we could use PK & consensus template to check if Cred has flowed in post(s) that were deemed as mandatory for review for actions that are enabled in decision making:
"Both the CredView api (currently used) and the CredGraph api (will replace CredView in the coming months) support looking up Nodes by address to see their cred. And to get the NodeAddress of the post you want to look up, you can use the address / reference detector apis provided by the respective plugin.”
Step 6 - Tinker with Community values expressed in Weights
Here is a SC instance attached to a test discord server & our gov/pm gh repo. Config & Data loaded can be forked into Stacksgov repo when we feel ready for testing or further async tinkering.
We will try to hold true to these original ideas from Jude as much as possible.
