Blockstack Team Weekly Update September 17-21, 2018

This is what some of us at Blockstack PBC last week. There are certain things e.g., legal matters or updates on internal infrastructure etc that we can’t make public for regulatory or security reasons.

Would love to hear from the community about how we can further improve this process.

Blockstack.org

  • New release was pushed for blockstack.org.
  • This included a bunch of bug fixes and some updated roadmap content.

Blockstack Browser

  • Worked on a bunch of new UI and copy updates all of last week.
  • New release should be pushed this week with an improved onboarding flow
  • Tested and merged pull requests for QR code ID restore and other bug fixes
  • Investigated saving pending usernames and passwords to the user’s profile.json to improve the restore flow

Blockstack Core

  • Improved responsiveness of several network-facing code paths
  • Bugfixes
    • Fix /v1/names/{:name}/history for subdomains
    • Remove epoch 3 deadline in the code (which triggered a network-wide crash, documented here)
    • Fix a crash that can result when you try to stop the node while it does not have a network connection.
  • Features
    • Implement c32check in Python so that /v1/accounts/{:account}/… endpoints can accept either a b58check or a c32check address
    • Merged @moxiegirl 's new Blockstack Core documentation. Looks great!

Blockstack CLI

  • Use association tokens when dumping and restoring Gaia buckets, so users don’t need to explicitly whitelist app keys when restoring a bucket to a private Gaia hub.
  • Update the CLI tech preview tutorial with user feedback.
  • Allow installation using blockstack.js 18 (makes for a cleaner installation experience)

App.co

  • Finished all dev work required for our alpha run on app mining. This includes more admin stuff, but also public pages.

Documentation

  • Pushed changes to Core master (waiting on push from the Browser side)
  • Researching background for OKR 2 Tutorial content
  • Writing OKR 2 Tutorial content ( will release for review EOD Monday)
  • Larry worked on tutorial sample app - will have it working this week.

Operations

  • Attended Oslo Freedom Forum
  • Attended USV Finance Summit
  • Team members started posting their proposed Q4 PBC OKRs
  • USV Manager training. Biggest takeaway: ask more (open) questions when people come to you with a problem/issue and you’re trying to help them.

Events:

  • DTW Tour London - October 1: Worked on event elements such as filming, signage, etc. Major promotion for London tour spot. Continued outreach to press, media and additional speakers.
  • Worked on speaker requests and meetups w/ Mitchell as part of DTW Tour
  • Edited live footage of videos from DTW Tour - NYC. Video will be in NL on Tuesday
  • Had continuous planning calls and emails with future events
  • Aaron spoke at the BOB Chicago meetup on Blockstack (Chicago Bitcoin and Open Blockchain Meetup)
  • Larry helped Justin of Misthos give several demos at Baltic Honeybadger conference in Riga.
